There have been some interesting reads on Grantland.com. I wanted to say that first, because I'm usually posting on this thread to say something like this:

Any writer getting top billing on a website that features works by Charles Pierce, Chuck Klosterman and Wright Thompson had best come to the table with more than snippets from another interview. And to throw in a side note that implies that others' interviews are preferred ...
Personally, I want to read an off-the-record interview with Megan Fox.
... makes me cringe a bit.

Just as the best possible Tina Brown parody was the piece Tina Brown herself wrote on Diana at 50, I'll say you'd be hard pressed to write a better parody of the culture side of Grantland's brain than the Molly Lambert story.

On the sports side, the field is still open. Something, perhaps, about what would happen if the Celtics and Bruins combind forces and played in the AL East.

I would say the sports topic they've most heinously attempted to write about is sabermetrics.

Also, I'm not usually a big Drew Magary fan, but he demolished Simmons today. http://kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com/2011/07/bill-simmons-is-god-of-hollywood.html

"All movies are shown on airplanes" was a bad, bad stumble, but otherwise, a worthy effort.

Good interview today with Klosterman and Bill James, about murder.

Really interesting interview - certainly the book is on my list now. Did particularly like this footnote:

"2 - Former NFL running back O.J. Simpson was famously acquitted for the grisly 1994 murder of two people in Los Angeles despite an overwhelming amount of evidence suggesting he was the "real killer." Also: I assume if you needed to read this footnote, you are not the intended audience for this book."

I agree. But this wins every point possible:

"OOH FOOTNOTE! THE EXTRA INNINGS OF SHITTY WRITING!"

Snagged it from the library. It's on top of the stack.

As Passan tweeted the other day, not everything in the world has to have some grand analysis.

I plan to never visit the site because I hate espn so much I can't stand to give them one more page view.

But I do feel I am up to speed on Grantland by keeping up with this thread.
