...and the lead came on a very, very weird one, at least for England. I suppose goals like this are sometimes scored in Latin America, or right after a child's birthday party.

Could balloon boy's parents be involved?

Wow, Bent could, maybe should, have had a second there.

Liverpool doesn't look good without their stars.

Two Sunderland players have been stretchered off in the second half. It appears Benitez was saying something about it to the fourth official that Steve Bruce took offense to, and there was a bit of an altercation near the dugouts.

Bruce looked as though he wanted to whack Benitez over the head with something.

23 years old, playing professionally overseas, representing his national team in hostile environments, and aspiring to play in World Cups for the next decade.

If he still considers himself "just a kid," and wants to act like one, then he should get off the national team and make room for someone who can handle the pressure/scrutiny/expectations, etc.

He screwed up. Don't make excuses for him.

Here's what we know - he was riding in the back seat of a car at 3am, and the car crashed. It was past curfew.

I'm willing to hold off on the caning.

Bent's Heene touch leaves Sunderland flying high?

Anyone want to jump on the Arsenal bandwagon? Us American Gooners will always welcome others.

Fingers crossed, but when Nasri and other injured guys start filtering back in the lineup, this already potent attack is going to get ridiculous. Still need to buy a defensive midfielder and backline enforcer, but the Premiership is there for the taking.

Oh pish posh. Come on down to the bottom of the table, where it's 17th or bust!

The universal conclusion appears to be that the Sunderland goal should not have been given.

Anyone notice the balloon had a Liverpool crest on it?

It was apparently part of a Liverpool 'summer fun' set or some such. Thrown on the pitch by a Liverpool fan of about 12.

Because when I think "summer fun", I think the Northeast of England.

I had this CNN video sent on to me. It isn't long and kind of fun.
