Freddy Adu scored his first goal in Greece today.

Listen closely to the PA and the fans at the end of the clip.

Is it possible that Adu is a fan favorite, already? I mean, goals strike incredible exuberance in the fans in any stadium, but combine their reaction plus their reaction to the PA announcer, maybe Adu has found himself a home.

I don't know. The best soccer match I ever saw on TV was the Champions League final a few years back when Man U. beat Bayern Munich 2-1 with two goals in injury time. Some guy from Norway whose name I'd never remember if you put a gun to my head came in as a sub with about 10 minutes left and ended up scoring the winning goal for Man U. That was the game that made me start paying attention to club competition instead of just taking an interest in the game every four years when the World Cup was played.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. That was the first Champions League match I ever watched, IIRC.

Not a good idea. When would they play the games, especially in a Euro or World Cup year? It would further devalue the FA Cup final, because it would likely force a team competing in the playoff to make choices about squad rotation.

And what of the potential scenario whereby a team competing in the Champions League final (or the Europa League final, for that matter) also ends up in the playoffs?

It's a neat idea, but it will never, ever fly.

    Hmm, sounds kind of dodgy.

    Oh, well never mind then.

And why, exactly, is Liverpool objecting?

Pastor's new digs are quite impressive.

He should have taken the bank notes off them. Every little helps ...

Seems like most of the limited trouble that did occur started with Southampton fans this time. Not that Portsmouth fans are angels; there are more Pompey fans subject to banning orders than any other club in the country. :D
