The Soccer Thread (Version 13) — Winter World Cup Edition

Jamaica tied Brazil today and will advance while Brazil will not. I suspect part, not all by any means, but a part that doesn't seem to get mentioned, of the US team's difficulties is that the countries that used to be minnows in women's soccer are improving.

 

Interesting info from an ESPNer at the WWC. He said aside from the brief dancing, the USWNT players don't seem very happy at all. They know they are in trouble.

As much of a mess as the Portugal game was, we still had a ton of chances and they didn’t even come close to sniffing goal until the screw up in injury time.

 

I guess that the Germans should have been more serious and knocked off the dancing.

 

Brazil, Germany and Canada all out in the group stage. All three in the top 10 of the FIFA rankings.

 

Morocco lost their first game 0-6 and still advanced to the knockout stage. Holy crap!
Germany v. S Korea was highly entertaining. Germany appeared to score the go-ahead goal from a header that was set up by a scorpion kick, from a cross. It was called back on video review.

 

Maybe they should have been dancing.
