And a miserable call on the yellow for the Costa Rica keeper after he blatantly handled the ball outside the box. That could have turned the game.

What a turnaround. Almost like against Algeria in the World Cup.

“Howard ... gratefully claims it. ... Distribution brilliant. Landon Donovan. ... There are things on here for the USA. Can they do it here? Cross. ... And Dempsey is denied again! And Donovan has scored! Oh can you believe this!?! Go, Go USA! Certainly through! Oh, it’s incredible! You could not write a script like this.”

Brek Shea would be an amazing asset for the U.S. if he could just stay healthy.

US almost got Concacafed, Haiti wasn't so lucky. It's Chinatown, Jake.

At least Klinsi can take comfort in knowing every Gold Cup game will count toward the FIFA rankings rather than a game against Martinique being Schrodinger's quarterfinal.

I was watching with the sound off but it looked liked there was a defender standing near the goal line so it seemed to me that yellow was proper.

Shea did score a goal (and he didn't exactly bury the chance as his shot hit the GK's hand on a 1 v 1) , but on Saturday and a bit today he has looked out of shape and not into the flow of the game.

That's twice now we've seen two textbook red card offenses in US games be handled with kid gloves. The Belize player could have easily smashed apart Mix Diskerud's leg, and the laws clearly state an intentional handball that denies a goal-scoring opportunity is a red card.

Landon Donovan has looked pretty good so far in these last four games. His assist to Shea last night was marvelous.

Curious as to who Klinsmann will call up, since teams can add four players to the roster for knockout round. I'm guessing Klinsmann will go with defense primarily. I'm also going to guess Graham Zusi gets called up, because I'm guessing Klinsmann wants to see how Zusi and Donovan look together in midfield together.

Perhaps, but a defender that trips a forward on a breakaway gets a red card, even though the goalkeeper is still to beat.

I don't know about "proper," but after watching it again, I do think the ref has deniability.

A winter World Cup? That won't be good for anybody.

I'm very curious as to when FIFA gives up on this bullshit. Considering there are a full nine years until this World Cup takes place, I figure they can mess around on this until at least 2015, maybe well into 2017 or 18.

When Sepp gets his Nobel Peace Prize and not one second sooner. That man will secure his legacy, even if it kills him and his sport.
