17 goals last season, can play just about damn near any position on the field and Liverpool wouldn't go higher than that? And Tottenham got him for £6 million?

Part of me thinks we're seeing a bit of anti-Americanism at work.

Not sure I buy that. He had screwed up Fulham's leverage, and it's not a slam dunk he's a full-time starter at Tottenham. Teams haven't been spending as wildly this transfer period.

Spurs didn't pay much more for Lloris, and I think he's far more valuable than Dempsey.

Do NOT ruin my conspiracy theory!

But, yeah, I halfway wonder how much we'll see Dempsey for Tottenham. And I wonder if the local soccer shop will have his jersey in stock by Tuesday.

Pia Sundhage stepping down as U.S. women's national coach.

Two Olympic gold medals, World Cup runner-up finish, 88-6-10 record in five years.

    Thank you, Pia. For everything.

    All the best ...

Pia's departure was a bit of a fait accompli once Sweden's women's national team coach stepped down. She's going home -- just in time for Sweden to host the European women's championship.

And for anyone who can read Swedish, here's the official release.

She did name Russell Wilson as a starter before she quit.

Impressive work. Especially in the last World Cup. I swear when that team barely qualified, I thought it was one game in the group stage and done. She made them into a real treat to watch.

DirecTV at the office has it, and it's part of our existing subscription. Fox Soccer is not.

It's not on our cable system yet - nor do I see it streaming online anywhere. How am I supposed to watch my supercorrupt Serie A favorites this season?

Sono il cuore spezzato. Che cosa farò?
