    From the Hillsborough report:

41 of the 96. Forty. One.

41 people who were alive at a time when the coroner said they were dead.

Anyone watched the Panama/Canada game last night? Didn't have a chance to watch it. I know the outcome, though.

It was a horrendous mistake by the goalie.

It wasn't an issue of the goalie getting there too late -- he got there easily and just didn't make the save. It hit him on the hands and went in. It was a well-struck ball, but it wasn't hit nearly hard enough to excuse letting it in like that.

I think it looks like he actually overshot the ball a little and it hit off of the heel of his right (top) hand or lower forearm.

David Conn has been at the forefront of English stadium disasters for a while (his Beautiful Game? book contains excellent analysis of the conditions which led to this dreadful downfall in security across the game). His column for the Guardian is a bit underwhelming though.

To me, it looks like the Jamaican keeper got as good of a reaction as he possibly could have, but he didn't have time to get his arms extended fully. Just a great goal, imo.

Both of these clubs are relatively near where I live. I've been to see both of them.

I turned on the Real Madrid-Man City match in about the 65th minute. Talk about good timing ...
