Euro 2020 will be quite literally that, scattered around major cities. I think I like it.

It might relieve financial pressure on governments (stadiums, security, transport). But for the average fan who wants to follow his/her team throughout the tournament, this is a huge cost increase.

I'm not so sure it's that much more expensive to go from, say Lisbon to Lyon than it was to traipse around Poland and Ukraine.

That's my thought. And given that the only country bidding to host was Turkey, I'd have to think it will be cheaper. And if they do it intelligently, they should be able to minimize travel -- you can have a lot of countries play at home or close to it, although you'd have to be mindful of giving one team an advantage.

Granted, the airfares will go shooting up on the routes of interest, but that would happen anyway.

United 3-2 over City. After City erases a 2-0 deficit, RVP with a deflected free kick in injury time. Rio gets hit by something from the crowd celebrating the goal and was bleeding pretty heavily above the eye. A fan or two came onto the field and it looked pretty crazy at the end.

I thought Rio and a fan both landed punches too.

I didn't see that. I saw a couple of the United players rushing over towards the City goal, so I assumed that some United player was involved with the fans.

Some of the soccer writers I follow on Twitter reported it as well. Also that police charged into the stands at that end.

Screencap of the coin hitting Rio.

“@SoccerByIves: THIS is a shot of a coin catching Rio Ferdinand in the eye just before the shirt lift. #CaseClosed http://t.co/alVmM7Ea”

Hooray for Joe Hart stepping up to confront the fan who rushed the field to confront Ferdinand. Should have gotten a free swing with those puffy gloves.

Joe Hart confronted the fan better than some of the shots Man U took.
