Stewart and Dooley both had American GIs as fathers, but Dooley was estranged from his.

I assume Dooley, the former FC Kaiserslautern great, finally learned English, because he didn't speak a lick of it in '93.

Dooley speaks English just fine. He's coaching the Philippines at the moment and I spent the last two weeks following him and his team at the AFC Challenge Cup. They didn't win it, but they're light years ahead of where they were just 10 years ago.

    .
Dooley is a little bit of a football hero of mine. Earlier than most Americans, since I was a 1FCK fan and they won the DFB-Pokal in 1990 and the Bundesliga in 1991. (I got the T-shirt still.)

    Anyone following this? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/longform/soccer-goals/index.html

I would have flipped 1 and 2, but it was some fun reading and good writing.

While Wambach's was certainly memorable, Alex Morgan's goal against Canada was just as dramatic, actually won the game, and the ultimate result was a championship. Otherwise, no problems with the list. Without Caligiuri's goal at T&T, I shudder to think how US soccer's growth would have been stunted.

I seem to remember Fifa making noises that it would've been far less willing to have the US host WC '94 if it hadn't qualified for Italia '90.

If Qatar loses the World Cup, thank Bill Clinton.

Two big features on Klinsmann today. But they seem at odds.

    RT @WSJSports
Jurgen Klinsmann wants to make U.S. soccer better by making it more American. http://online.wSportsJournalists.com/articles/with-his-eye-on-the-world-cup-soccer-coach-jurgen-klinsmann-overhauls-team-usa-1401899734
