The Sopranos 4/8.... spoilers?

The theme was escape from your doomed and damned existence-- Tony looked longingly across the water to Canada and in the innocence of a young child (contrasting with T's own childhod and the crappy way that his kids have turned out). Bobby doesn't look like that until he pops his cherry and kills the Canadian.

Best episode since Long Term Parking.

I think the point was that Tony is vulnerable.

And his getting back at Bobby by making him carry out the hit was the cruelest thing I have witnessed him do in 78 episodes.

Also... since when do hollow points tie anyone to anyone else?

It's not like they are a rare commodity in the least.

Good episode to launch the final run.

Good point on the hollow points...I can't imagine that Tony would be dumb enough to buy a gun under his own name. Or that the stupid kid wouldn't have fired off all the rounds in 2+ years.

man, so much for not spoiling stuff for those stuck at work.

guess they can blame themselves for looking, but still...

I thought that the gun charge showed: 1) that the Essex DA was a publicity hound, again proving that no one is innocent; 2) that it can all be taken away from Tony and Carm in a heartbeat; and 3) that Tony isn't really in imminent danger, as the feds have nothing on him.

  7. Yeah, it does appear Tony just got really, really sloppy and in a vindictive moment gave Bobby a job he can't handle. Very sloppy. But this crime took place in Canada, right? The seeds of Tony's demise have been planted. No way he would've given that assignment to Bobby had Bobby just not whipped his tail. Tony is on a suicide mission. He's done the math. He's had a 10-year run and just wants out.

Now that I have reduced expectations for the Sopranos, this episode was passable.

The show, in my opinion, is still hamstrung by the salary demands of the actors. We saw it last year and it looks like we're going to see it again this year: Each episode will focus on a small group of supporters and Tony and Carm. The show used to be a big ensemble damn near every episode. (Okay, I just read a review in the NJ Ledger and he says the episode II, you'll see the whole cast. Too bad viewers don't get to watch the show 2 episodes at a time. The Ledger promises a lot of action in episode II and that we won't be disappointed.)

Tonight: No Melfi... Chris, Paulie, Sil, Meadow and AJ made very brief cameos. Heche has disappeared from the show. We barely got a glimpse of Phil and his crew.

That would have been part of my defense. My lawyer would have insisted the kid had to have used bullets he got within the last couple of years, playing up the shoot-the-gun-off-to-impress-his-friends angle.

I'm starting to wonder if the FBI guys aren't dirty as well. Perhaps on Tony's payroll all this time.

Speaking of the FBI guys, had to lovethe "popcorn fart" line.

Give Schirippa massive credit, he trumped Gandolfini in the category that I thought Tony Soprano had by a mile:

The range from congenial to smoldering menace.

I'd love to see another all-out, no-holds-barred brawl between those two. Anyone think of a sumo match when they went at it. And I didn't think Bacala had it in him to put Tony to the screws like that. Mr. Conductor knows how to fight.
