    OnTheRiver,

What do you think about Family Circus. I wasn't sure if you thought it sucked or not. :D

The comics would be a lot better today (both in humor and art) if cartoonists were given decent space to work with. Unfortunately, the comics have been forced into smaller and smaller spaces the past few decades, with the result that you have to practically squint to read the text in balloons now. It's another reason why newspapers are struggling these days -- they take the most popular part of their product--the comics--and shrink them so much there isn't any room for real creativy, art or storytelling anymore.

I haven't seen Shoe in ages, although I used to think it was really funny. I had no idea it was still around and I had no idea Jeff MacNelly had died.

Does Skyler still end up in the Marines every summer?

Oh yes, I do hates me some Family Circus...

On a side note: Am I just suffering from faulty memory, or did Funky Winkerbean use to be a comedy-based strip. It's gone real maudlin over the past few years, to the point it's rivaling For Better or Worse for the "Most Pussified Strip" award.

Funky's terrible. Everyone has cancer or is going to Iraq or is missing an arm. What happened to selling horrible band candy and having the Battle of the Bands always take place in a monsoon?

When I lived in a real city where the comics aren't a quarter of the page, the two I read were Get Fuzzy as well as Arlo and Janis. But the paper in my current city, as well as the paper I work at, don't carry either of those so there's no reason to look at the comics.

And I second what everyone else said. Comics just aren't as good anymore now that Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes aren't around.

    Get Fuzzy is the shit.

I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud, hell even chuckled to myself, about any other. Maybe Gil Thorp, but in that "watching a train wreck slowly happen" kind of way.
