That makes my copy editor Spidey sense tingle. I’d like to know what studies are being referenced. I don’t doubt that there are many, many accurately-reported rapes that don’t yield convictions. But that number smacks of unsupported certitude.

 

Yeah, eating the rest of Bauer's deal is a rounding error for the Dodgers, should it come to that. There is the risk of him going Trump scorched earth on an image rehab tour with a division or NL rival, but I'm not sure the line to sign him will be out the door, or even existent. He isn't the Kobe of his sport. He's a mouthy asshole loathed by many of his peers--think about how much of an asshole you have to be to get Terry Francona, who dealt with Manny Ramirez and Curt Schilling among many others, to stalk to the mound and yell WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?--and the best year of his life came in a literal bubble in which he barely had to pitch to any teams or players of note. If this is as bad as it seems, he may be in the courts for the next 12 months. Is anyone gonna want a 33-year-old asshole almost two years removed from his last pitch in 2023?

 

In the Internet era, which is getting to be kind of old now, no editor should let a sentence with the noun-verb "studies show" appear unless there is at a minimum a link underneath the words showing the studies in question.

Sports are the stupid branch of show biz. The move for Bauer would be to request a leave of absence to fight these "false" allegations. That he doesn't do it is pretty convincing evidence he knows he did and so do the Dodgers and MLB. He needs their cover just to stay afloat.
