When your kicker has missed one and had one blocked, leaving the game on this kids foot from 45 yards is terrible coaching.

In the 4th quarter, Nevada leads Idaho 70-38.

Maybe, but I thought taking your helmet off in celebration on the field was a no-debate, automatic unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. It's not open to interpretation like a celebration penalty.

    helmet off, 15 yards.

Big difference: it was very ambiguous whether Locker was tossing the ball in celebration or whether it just slipped out. In this case, a clear ripping off of the helmet with the play still alive.

What could they have done? Alabama's front four are amazing. You cannot block them, and when the goalline condenses the secondary, those short routs stop being there.

Kiffin has taken chicken shit and Tennessee and is starting to make chicken salad. Granted, his old man probably deserves 75% of the credit.

Yeah, Oklahoma's totally overrated. Uh huh.

    It's a stupid rule.

The scene at the end of that game is exhibit #1 for the "college is better than the NFL" argument. A flag would have been very "no fun."

No, it's really not a stupid rule, particularly if the ball is still in play.

Even if it's not, a helmet can become a weapon very very quickly. Just ask Miami and FIU.

But rule, nonetheless, another one which apparently doesn't apply to the top teams in the SEC.

I did not see the play. But it sounds as if a potential game-changing penalty was clearly overlooked, to the benefit of the SEC powerhouse. Guess Tennessee gets an apology on Monday, as per usual.

The rule is part about fun, but also part player safety. If he's celebrating and the play -- Cody thinking the play's dead -- goes his way, he's in a bad situation. When you're on the field, your helmet is on. Period. There's no wiggle room when it comes to this rule.

Kick was blocked. Ball was rolling on the ground like Ron Hextall after a one-timer and two Alabama guys were over top the ball.

Helmet-less player was probably 25 yards from the ball running off the field. The game was decided.

If you want a 15-yard penalty, make it a call when the helmet is taken off in aggression, not celebration.
