I am who I thought I was. So I'm going to let myself off the hook.

    He can't.

Ex-Gophers' QBs Tony Dungy and Mike Hohensee developed into great, and good, football coaches. The ex-Gophers' QB they do hire, Joe Salem, cannot differentiate between a football player and a pine tree, his protestations to the otherwise notwithstanding.

Are you saying Ricky Foggie will be the next Gophers' head coach?

If Brewer fails - although he seems to have made the competitive, even with the ugly-ass combinations to what was previously a classic uniform - they should throw the house at Dungy. He might be ready to coach again in 3-4 years.

    Disagree.

Let's pair 'em off, using Sagarin's rankings form last week:

Florida-Southern Cal = I'd call it a push but only one of the starting QBs has a Heisman.
Alabama-Oregon = Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer.
LSU-Arizona = LSU beat Washington, Washington beat Arizona.
Cal-S.C. = I'll give you this one, but I think they both suck.
Arkansas-Washington = Meh. I'll give this to the Huskies.
Oregon State-Kentucky = The Beavs are playing pretty good.
Stanford-Auburn = Tigers have better talent, but I'll give you this one.
Georgia-Arizona State = Well, we know how this one turned out.

Except ... I didn't slot Ole Miss in here. Could they beat, say, Washington or Cal on a good day?
Nor did I slot Tennessee in there. Could they take Cal in a rematch? Maybe.

Reslotted, it looks like to me SEC wins 5 or 6 out of 8. Of course, I would think that ...

Seriously. Not so sure the play had been whistled dead yet.

From SEC spokesman Charles Bloom, via Andy Staples of SI.com:

"The foul for taking (a) helmet off is a live ball foul treated as a dead-ball foul," Bloom wrote in an e-mail Saturday night. "That is, if it happens on a play where time does not expire then the penalty is enforced on the following play. However since the clock ran out on that play, then there is no next play, so there is no penalty to mark off."

EDIT: Not picking on Oz here, but there were pretty intense debate about this a few pages back, so I thought I'd clear it up. Based on what Bloom says, it sounds pretty open-and-shut. No flag.

Gee, Steak, you shouldn't let facts and logic get in the way of good anti-SEC bitch session. What are you, some kind of Alabama fanboy? ;) ;)

Just when I think you've stopped making ridiculous comments based on little to no thought.....

Then again, who was the last player to score last night? Someone from Boise? HE'S your Heisman winner!!!!

He's arguably the best player on what is currently the No. 1 team in the country. That would seem to at least make it a possibility.

Cody's a great player, but Rolando McClain is the best player on that team. After him, it's either Cody, Javier Arenas or Mark Ingram. Julio Jones obviously has all the ability in the world, but isn't having a good year.
