I think The Good Wife might be CBS's lone "prestige" show - it's also in year five, after which contracts need to be renegotiated. My guess?, CBS goes ahead with a final season order to give writers a chance to give it a decent sendoff.

  2. Alright ... Watched Episode 3 of Sherlock last night ...

    It seemed a bit Un-Sherlockian.

    Possible spoilers ....

The twist with John's wife was awesome... But how did Sherlock not forsee the idea that Magnusson was just like him? It didn't dawn on him the guy was a mental genius? And Sherlock's final confrontation plan sucked. It was really, really out of character. That's not even considering the shooting.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about the episode.

But I am REALLY excited to see Moriarty's return and anxious to see how he's alive.

    Continued spoilers for Sherlock:

I wouldn't get too excited yet about the possibility of Andrew Scott's return. I'm assuming that Andrew Scott's character is actually dead. Either that was Moriarty and the message is from one of his henchman, possibly Sebastian Moran, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Moran, or the guy we saw die was a henchman and Moriarty is still out there. If they try to make it that Scott's character never died, then I'm going to be furious because that continues a pattern by Moffat of walking back any consequences for the actions of major characters in his shows - it's especially bad in Doctor Who.

Also, I wasn't a fan of the ending of the episode, either. I thought it was really good up until that point but then that was a letdown. My favorite episode of the season was probably the middle one.

I agree on all of the above. Honestly, the season wasn't that good. He needs to bring in some crime writers to give him better mysteries.

  5. I agree... I really can't see how Moriarty is alive. If so, there better be a good explanation.

Like, Verse, i thought the second episode was the the best - not that there's a lot to choose from. The twist with Mary was well-done. I love the long-range planning they do with this show. But they fell short with the Magnusson plot line.

I liked each episode more the second time around and I have it on par with season 1. They went all-in on character development this season, and the mysteries were basically beside the point. My hope is that that makes the show better in the long run as they'll hopefully get back to the mysteries being the focal point, but the characters will each be more well defined. I see this season sort of as the fulcrum that was needed to give the show a push toward a strong future.

I take all of that back if Scott is somehow alive.

The format is ill-suited for a show in which we all want more detective stuff. Six hour-long episodes per season would have been a better choice.

If they wanted to go more plot-heavy, their current format is better. Some of the ones that have been more case-oriented, like Hound and The Great Game, would have fallen flat if they were hour-long.

Have you seen the unaired pilot? It's only an hour long and I feel like it definitely falls short from the 90-minute version of A Study in Pink (which remains my favorite episode).

I'm really hoping that we get more information about Mary in the next season. Also, the BBC is convincing them to fast-track it, so we may have the next season by this Christmas.

My main quibble about this series was the stunt-casting. Sherlock's parents were played by Benedict's parents. Watson's wife was Martin Freeman's real-life partner. Young Sherlock is Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue's son. (I still see Asa Butterfield as Young Sherlock.) Britain's lousy with actors, right? Step outside and bring new people into the fold that aren't already connected to the show.

Oh, I know... I like the show, but I am a sucker for accuracy.
