    That's a good question.

Kal Penn's career has been kind of disappointing, given where he seemed to be headed.

Tony Shaloub, Kal Penn, and Jerry O'Connell

Bradley Whitford, Marcia Gay Harden and Malin Akerman

That's pretty damn good by most standards... And both shows suck...

But you've only seen a preview, right? Or have you seen multiple episodes already somehow?

    Dads cast is similarly underutilized.

I find a lot of un-PC stuff funny, and I hadn't read anything about any controversy with Dads. I was just thoroughly disappointed in the show. Nothing that was original, really, and it just was not funny at all. And I love Green and a lot of MacFarlane's stuff. That's the thing with MacFarlane, though -- he can be hilarious or he can just be bad. There's not a lot of in between with him.

I saw a full episode of each. I'm not betting on either rallying back, but if I had to choose one, Trophy Wife has better potential than We Are Men.

Jerry O'Connell is horrible. His acting was the worst part of Scream 2. Think about that. He hasn't been in anything good since Sliders. And as I mentioned before, Kal Penn is an underachiever. Tony Shaloub is very good, but he's listed fourth on the credits (behind unestablished Chris Smith).

I can abide by Harden and Whitford, on the basis that I understand he was good in West Wing. Trophy Wife's cast also is deeper (and more attractive) than We Are Men.

I'm holding out a LOT more hope for Trophy Wife than We Are Men.

Malin Akerman has been good for a while now in movies, never gotten the credit she deserves. I think Whitford's great in just about anything he does (as is his wife, incidentally). I still miss the show with Whitford and Colin Hanks.

And even with those two, I think Marcia Gay Harden has the potential to steal every scene she's in with that character. Her recent turn on "The Newsroom" (ducking) was hilarious.

I don't even like the concept of the show. It was funny, I picked up a recent issue of Esquire, and it made Dads sound like the worst show in the history of television.

It's not a good show. I just think that when magazines and websites have to make predictions as to which show will be the first canceled, it can impact whether people watch.

These are the same critics who anointed Two Broke Girls as a monster hit before it ever aired.

(On the other hand, the only scene in Michaela Watkins' career worth watching a second time was her hookup with Arden Myrin in "Hung.")

The preview of Trophy Wife is on the CBS website.
