Some of the parents of my kids' friends look at me strange when I tell them to call me by my first name.

When #2 son turned 18 we had a chat over lunch one day:

#2 Son: Now that I am "legal", can I call you Jack instead of Dad?

Me: Of course; that's my name.

#2 son: Do you think I can call Mom, Peg?

Me: That would not be a good idea!

#2 son is now 36 years old and he recalls that conversation - - and the wisdom that I imparted to him in that conversation - - vividly and frequently.

I ask 'em to stop calling me (31) "Mr." E-Row every time. They never do.

Ha. Leo. I have a friend also with a July birthday and she's one of those who celebrates her birthmonth all month. Never quite understood that. Then again, my 25th birthday is the last I was excited about because my insurance costs dropped dramatically overnight.

Old enough to know what I want and young enough to enjoy it.

    30. But after a knee surgery and a back surgery, I feel much older.

I'm old enough to know better
But still too young to care.
