Pardon me if this has been covered already (first time poster), but will she be the first woman SE in the state?

At least at your bigger dailies, if I had to take a guess. There have probably been female SEs at smaller dailies, and I can think of at least four at non-dailies.

It's a great move for her. It's unfortunate that there was a casualty when the young man, or mole, was canned for putting info about the job searchs.

The boots pipeline squeaks out another winner. How can we ever doubt you?

I hate seeing somebody lose a job but it's really risky posting stuff about the inner workings of a newspaper if you're on the staff. I'd much rather play it safe.

I'm not trying to win an award for being right or wrong. I just tell it as I see it. The Pilot can be great. It can also be horrible. With the business the way it is now, it will be interesting to see if Landmark lets up on the purse strings.
Again, it's sad to see a youngster lose his job over this. Virginia is a right to work state.

No, the guy was an idiot. It's one thing if the SEs themselves come on here to discuss their openings. It's another if someone on the staff leaks confidential personnel information. That could set his paper up for a lawsuit at worst, losing a desirable candidate at least. It could cause a candidate to get fired from their current position if their employer reads that information.

The guy got what he deserved. It's not enough to know how to do your job; you also have to know how to be a good employee.

Anyone have the scoop on the new sports editor's background? Great hire? Not so great...?

I've heard very good things but have no personal knowledge. I know two of the other candidates and if she beat them out, she's pretty good.

    But it's still sad.

It's sad when someone gets laid off because of economics. It's sad when someone loses their job because there's a new owner and they want their own people in place. It's not sad in the least when someone breaks confidentiality to put not-for-public-consumption information out on Broadway.

Are you really suggesting a guy should be out of a job for posting his OPINION on an anonymous message board about something he witnessed? God help you.
