Soccer and hockey fans who don't get the fact that both are niche sports and never will be more than that -- even though they've been growing for the past 30 years!!!!! --- and a helluva lot of people in this country don't like or don't care about either, not because they don't understand both games, but because they think both games are either boring or stupid.

Agree Rick - I'll go further and say I'm tired of people ripping sports outside of the Big Four or Five and the big leagues therein. It's not like these smaller sports, leagues, and teams are taking time away from adequately covering bigger leagues, teams and sports.
I don't know how many hours I turn on a regional sports channel and find an infomercial on.
One caveat - I have no time for those second and third tier teams, sports and leagues that complain that if only they received more coverage, they would be more popular.
See beach volleyball, boxing, open-wheel racing, hockey, track and field. All used to be staples on the broadcast networks on the weekend, but now they are like cousins you only see every once in a while. And it wasn't because of anything TV did. Beach volleyball was only as strong as its sponsorship (like golf), boxing moved to pay cable, open-wheel racing imploded on itself and signed a deal with a small cable channel, hockey did the same.

Damn. I hate agreeing with Zag. That's the one that really ticks me off, people assuming that anybody who doesn't like their sport just doesn't understand it. Soccer players, coaches and fans seem to be the worst. Guess what? I understand soccer just fine. It still bores the crap out of me unless it is a game I am covering.

Now volleyball, I can just sit down and watch a random match and enjoy it, but that doesn't mean I expect the average fan to like it.

Also when ESPN does their scroll, they run through a list of scores, then, just as the score you're hoping to see is about to come up, they go to commercial. When they come back, they're on a different score. ESPN doesn't stop the scroll during the commercials and restart it again.

Having to edit out the word "would" 100 times in a stringer story.

As in, "Podunk would score the next 10 points before Johnny Blowme would hit a layup."

    Notre Dame.

    US college Bowl games.

The Phoenix Coyotes. Please just walk out in the desert and die.

Gary Bettman talking about "growing the sport"

And most of all, The Winter Classic. Not the game but the obnoxious faux nostalgia.

Pro hockey hasn't been played outdoors in about a hundred years. If you want the true outdoor hockey experience, get rid of the refs, the boards (snowbanks, please), throw the sticks in a pile at centre ice and choose teams. No faceoffs after goals and game's over after first team scores ten goals.
