I hardly ever do this, but I took a book into class tonight so I could refer to something that's not usually in my teaching rotation. A fugitive thought occurred to me, so I took an informal survey ... and discovered that half the class hadn't been born when I bought the book.

I joined about a decade ago - when I was a sportswriter with just one kid and this place was exciting and new. And busy.
10 years, 2 kids and a career change later, here I be.

I just checked. I've been hanging around this place since 2004. At that time, we had no kids, I was an SID and lived somewhere I don't live now.

Now....two kids, teaching college, back in the hometown.

    Crazy.

Someone may have already said something similar on here. ... But one of my best friends became a grandfather this weekend. We're both 48.

The first famous athelete who is younger than me was shaq. I still remember hearing vitale screeching "he's only 18 years old!" And so was I.

Hey, I resemble that remark...but being a paw-paw is the greatest thing ever. I strongly suggest you give it a try.

Two years ago, we played at Youngstown State. I lived in Youngstown in 1989 and went to some games there. When I walked in the gym, I started freaking out when it hit me that the last time I'd been there, none of my players had been born yet.

They pointed out on the Sunday night NFL game that Pete Carroll is the oldest coach in the league. And Bill Belichick is second oldest. I am just a couple of months younger that Carroll and I am older than Belichick. Thanks to Tom Coughlin for retiring so this becomes relevant.

**edited to fix my screwup. I told you, I'm old.**

Hitting the thumbs up button over and over all day on Facebook like it's an assembly line. Grateful for the love and recognition, but it rubs it in a little each time.
