Things that make you feel old

Those uniforms were better than the Cowboys Cheerleaders!

 

Today, I discover that cargo short might no longer be all that fashionable.

 

I'm 48 years old.
I have 0 interest in what is or is not in fashion.

 

Very similar to the way I felt about clothes at 38, 28 and 18.

 

I finally got hungry enough to open the box of Cracker Jacks our boss handed out a few months ago in a failed attempt to boost morale.

This was the prize.

I feel old.

 

Hey, you got your Christmas bonus early.

 

I don’t know why I feel cheated by not getting a cheap plastic trinket that I would just throw away, but I do.

 

Dropping a "classic" movie reference - Always Be Closing, You Can't Handle The Truth, etc. and getting zero response from your co-workers.

 

Having a college athlete tell me he's into old-school R&B, from the 90s. I told him I graduated from high school in 90. He then looked at me like I'm old, which I guess I am.

 

I had a student log into a trivia quiz as Dude. After each question, the scores are projected and I read them off having fun with it. Dude was in second and I dropped a "The Dude abides." None of my seniors got the reference. I figured at least one of them had to have an older sibling who showed them. Nope.

 

That's the sort of thing that blows my mind. I know movies like that came out when we were coming of age in the 90s and early 2000s, but there are Lebowski memes all over the internet. Same with other movies. Surely these whippersnappers should have seen those and at least have a vague sense of what it's referencing.
