I've said my piece on this, but the invocation of Boys of Summer is delightful.

Surprisingly, I also have been to college.
And I took a class that covered similar ground.
I also took a logic class, which taught me that to argue that English should follow one grammatical rule of German because it is a Germanic language at its root yet ignore all other grammar, syntax and use rules of German would be illogical.

I think I would defer to Buford T. Justice in this debate.

Or just toss it because if a rule is broken often enough, it no longer makes sense as a rule.

I wouldn't say to reclassify prepositions. I would just to say allow them after their object if that makes the sentence more conversational.

    take this example:

"To die, to sleep no more, and and by a sleep to say we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to."

Now, are you saying you could have written that better by dropping that preposition?

and now that we have thoroughly hijacked this thread, many apologies to the OP

I would assume if it were rewritten it would be understandable. So therefore, yes, it would be better.

No. No, no, no, no, no, no fucking way.

You don't toss a rule just because it often gets broken. Quite simply, we'd have no rules.

As to the Shakespeare? Yes, I can rewrite that and make it better.

"To die, to sleep no more, and by a sleep to say we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh inherits."

Inherits is better than "is heir to."

We should do away with lengthy quoted replies.
