I agree about the Smartphones. I have had it up to here with people playing with them while I try to have a conversation. I don't own one because it isn't worth the extra $30/month right now to me. That vignette in the Post piece made me nostalgic for the days when you actually had to make plans, get directions ahead of time, etc., etc. Which is stupid, because it is so much easier now. But mostly I hate Smartphones because people play with them all the time. It's rude.

People can be very rude with their phones. You'll be in a bar or restaurant and half the place is texting instead of talking to the people they're with.

Before cell phones, you had to be on time. Now it's all "where are you", "are you almost here".

But, while I never thought I needed a smart phone, I'd now be lost without one. Having email, the internet, gps, etc. with me at all times is such a difference.

Is it really that cheap? I pay $25/month for cell phone. Online search for "cost of ownership for smartphone" showed prices ranging from $110-$160 per month (including cost of phone). Cannot imagine paying that much every month when I already have internet access at home, at work and a cheap e-reader with wi-fi.

IMO, that's 401(k) money people say they cannot afford . . . that they really can (but choose not to).

There should be a national Leave Your Cell Phone At Home Day.

Wonder how many people could do it.

Wonder if it would be almost irresponsible in this day and age.
