A few years ago, Alcorn State's band had two 300-pound female tuba players that they worked into their routine beautifully.
They'd go through the main set, then for the finale the MC comes on the speaker and says, "You've seen the Golden Girls (their dancers), now it's time to bring on the big girls!"
The tuba players put down their instrument, come to the middle of the field and proceed to start 30 seconds of nasty dancing. Eventually the drum major walks over and the big girls start fighting over him. He gets bounced between their tummies, then all three finish with a moment of nasty dancing.
It was as awesome as it sounds, and the crowd absolutely loved it.

Not only should they go change to SXSWAC but they should the move the tournament to Austin at the same time as South by Southwest just to really confuse the hell out of people but it would also boost media coverage.

You already got reporters there, right?

And then they could schedule pre- and post-game concerts by the school bands in an effort to get them record deals and/or dirty dancing gigs for the next Modest Mouse video.

I will say this. THE single greatest college football experience of my life was a SWAC game: the legendary Alcorn State-Valley game in 1984 at Memorial Stadium in Jackson.

Of course, that game was like manna from heaven, and not even the SWAC could fuck that up.

Just checking on the woman under the bus. Maybe we should send balloons or something.

In that case we should send balloons to the bus.

Got intrigued by the memory of Alcorn's big girls and tried to find a clip on YouTube, but nothing turned up right away. Did find Southern University's riff on the same theme, though:

I bet the SWAC Tournament got better coverage than the one SMU was playing in that week.
