I chose Cal as the team in question. And he might be a man, and he might be 40, but Gundy can't coach defense worth a lick.

That's why Bill Young is there. If he can do for Okie State what he did for Kansas (get even one or two extra stops per game), it'll be hard to keep up with that offense.

really good story in espn the mag on briles' turnaround/building job at baylor, and how it began by getting qb griffin. the bears have gotten some bigtime recruits, too, even getting one to decommit from texas to go to waco.

just a nice overall story, with a terrific summation on the program in relation to griffin's 22-yard broken-play gain against wake forest last season. it could've been the hook to hang the story on, but is perfectly placed where it is.

Florida was my No. 1, followed by Texas and Oklahoma.

The Longhorns have a huge freshman RB (6-foot-4, 250 lbs) coming in, so if they can get him some touches early, their ground game could pick up. If McCoy has to do it all again, I can see them dropping a trap game somewhere.

That was my team in question as well. Couldn't decide on whether California should be in there or not, but ended up making 'em No. 25. Also, went with Notre Dame at No. 16. Clausen might not win the Heisman, but am thinking the Irish might surprise some (BC on Oct. 24 and Pitt on Nov. 14).

For what it's worth, here's my top 5.

    1. Florida
    2. Oklahoma
    3. Texas
    4. Alabama
    5. USC
