Can Five Guys be counted as fast food if you have to sit and wait for it? Not long, but enough that you do have to wait.

And if so, where do you draw the line? Wayback Burgers makes some pretty good burgers, but it's almost restaurant-length wait.

I think it's fast food. You order it at a counter and pick the food up yourself from a counter, so feels like it's fast food. Or "fast" food.

Of course, that brings in buffets like Ryan's and the like, and even Hu Hot, which you can get to go. But those are definitely not fast food.

If it’s made to order, it’s not fast food.

The Halal Guys have the best sauces.

I've been eating made to order Wendy's burgers since the 70's.

I would count Five Guys as quick casual at a minimum. Not stereotypical fast food by any means. I see Five Guys and In N Out comparisons all the time and it always baffles me. Talk about apples and oranges.

And Subway isn't fast food then?

Slight detour, but one of my favourite lines from Ken Dryden’s “The Game”, Habs dressing room before a game.

A player asks who is in net tonight, and Guy Lapointe replies “I’ll give you a hint. Kenny is laughing and telling stories , and Bunny is in the shitter puking his guts out”

Five Guys is a little more like Fatburger than In-n-Out.

There is no corresponding equivalent to the fries at Five Guys anywhere in fast food.
