This week's bizarre high school football score

There have been at least two boys' games in the Kansas state championships that have had one team post a scoreless quarter so far this weekend. In 25+ years of covering high school games, I saw a scoreless quarter in a boys' game once.

Meanwhile, there seem to be a lot of girls' tourney games that are ending with both teams under 40 points.

I don't know what's happened to the offenses in this post-season but there have been a lot of low-scoring games.

Coaching. And everyone thinking they are Steph Curry.

Almost sounds like something from the threads devoted to Coach Starsis's teams.

Well, ONE of my nieces scored in the wrong basket twice, a couple years apart, but it was totally unintentional.

Although a couple teams we played could have been called the Pathetic Puppies.

I'm guessing the Toledo schools would participate in the Ohio state playoffs? Story doesn't really say.

In California, schools in the Lake Tahoe area take the 15-minute trip to Nevada to play in the leagues there instead of the 15-minute trip to play California schools.

That is correct. The only team eligibility requirement Ohio has is a minimum of 8 games, although that has been waived the past couple of seasons.
In 2018, Steubenville, which has no league affiliation, played 7 of 10 games against out-of-state opponents.

Five California schools play in Nevada -- three in the Tahoe area, Coleville, which is on 395 in the Eastern Sierra and Needles, home of Spike on the Colorado River and just south of where Arizona, California and Nevada meet.

It’s a good deal longer than 15 minutes. They have to go to Sacramento for league games.

There are times when the joke is appropriate. This isn’t one of them.

I remember covering a high school girls game some years ago in a small gym where they had the side baskets pulled down for some reason. The outcome was decided, so with a few seconds left one of the girls on the visiting team (which was winning) decided to get cheeky and shot a layup on the side basket over her team's bench.
Neither the home team nor its fans were amused. She got called for a technical and damn near triggered a brawl.

Different situation, but Mississippi's private school association also has members in Louisiana, Arkansas and Tennessee. Most of them are near the Mississippi border, but a couple of the Louisiana members are located between Monroe and Shreveport.

They changed their name to the Mid-South Association of Independent Schools a few years ago. Before that they were the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools, which inevitably led to fun explanations of why teams from Arkansas and Louisiana were playing each other for the Mississippi state championship.
