To people who see the two testament as parts of the same covenant, Jesus fulfills the Old Testament law.

He Gets Us is a diverse group of Jesus followers with a wide variety of faith journeys and lived experiences. Our work represents the input from Christians who believe that Jesus is the son of God as well as many others who, though not Christians, share a deep admiration for the man that Jesus was, and we are deeply inspired and curious to explore his story. We look at the biography of Jesus through a modern lens to find new relevance in often overlooked moments and themes from his life. If you’d like to join us, you’re invited. Below you’ll find several resources to explore the story of Jesus for yourself.

They are not for the benefit of Jesus, is what quant meant. They’re evangelism.

    Understood. It's a language thing.

These commercials sell Jesus. The Jesus brand.

Hence, they are advertisements for Jesus.

In the same way some car commercials are advertisements for Chevrolet.

People mount the oddest hobbyhorses when it comes to religion ...

That said, I've found the campaign (which has been going on for several months) to be quite compelling. I understand it's not been universally lauded even in Christian circles -- Hey, what is? -- but I'm OK with the evangelism.

They’re not quite the same. But they were both on TV.

The spots are well made and provocative.

Is this a campaign to get me to go to church?

He Gets Us simply invites all to consider the story of a man who created a radical love movement that continues to impact the world thousands of years later. There are many churches and Christian groups that can help people who are spiritually open to understand more about who Jesus was and why his words and life are relevant today.

Whether you consider yourself a Christian, a believer in another faith, a spiritual explorer, or not religious or spiritual in any way, we invite you to hear about Jesus and be inspired by his example.

For some people, that inspiration might evoke curiosity about what Jesus taught. Some might even want to have a conversation with someone about spirituality or join a local class about the Christian faith at a local church. And so, we offer those options, but that’s not our mission.

Some people will want to read accounts of Jesus’s life from the Bible at their own pace and on their own terms. We have reading plans that make that possible too. But there are never any strings attached.

We hope to be the voice of a movement — of people who have considered his story and found it deeply and personally transformational. For some, it has been a religious experience, and for others, it’s simply a call to strive to love others better.

No matter what your response is to his story, we encourage you to explore it from a new perspective.

I find them rather expected. Christianity is fundamentally dangerous to the secular political world. That’s why Communist governments immediately suppress it.

Yep. I don’t necessarily agree with all of the approach, but it’s rooted in the idea that, once you start learning, reading and conversing about Jesus, you’re going to want to know more in a way that eventually gets you in a church.

But the thing is a general awareness campaign about Jesus, too.

The "secular political world" in the United States is not dangerous to free expression of religion (whether Jesus is your particular fairy tale, or something else). Sometimes, though, Christianity poses a danger to that secular politican world, because a lot of people use their Jesus fetish and their religious "beliefs" to try to impose all kinds of things on others that come in conflict with the liberty a free, secular society is predicated on. That is a danger to the freedom (and rights guarantees) that make it so that Christians are free to believe whatever they want. ... as long as they don't try to institutionalize it so it is mandatory for others to have to adopt their "beliefs," and those beliefs aren't putting restraints on others.

The reasons that communist governments suppress religions (Christianity included) are not specific to anything about Christianity. They suppress all kinds of other things that don't make people subordinate to their dictatorial authority. You can essentially look at the U.S. Constitution's bill of rights, and all of the rights we are guaranted that make us free. ... are a "danger" to an authoritarian regime. It doesn't mean those things are dangerous to the "secular political world" when people are living in a free society whose foundation is the guaranteed rights we all have. Those things, including freedom of religion, are actually integral to that kind of place. Conflicts only happen when Jesus freaks try to make us NON-SECULAR and subordinate to them.

I think the setting is what has people talking.* A Super Bowl commercial.

That said, it's been a dozen years since the Tebow / Focus on the Family spot.

*which means it was a success
