Still not sure why the Times doesn't refer to her by her chosen name.

Good point. When you run across a winner like Tamerlan (and get to live in his drafty attic and get to become all sorts of famous...), even a fine school like Suffolk takes second place.

Maybe she never had it changed legally.

One of the three idiots has been released on bail.

    So what.

    What's P. Diddy's legal name? What' Jay-Z's?

And, while a publication like the Times would usually reference the legal name of each of them, they would refer to them throughout an article by the name they've chosen to go by.

This woman chose to go by a Muslim name after her conversion, yet only ABC News, from what I can tell, has even mentioned this.

Other news outlets have completely ignored it. Why? Seriously? Why won't they call her by her chosen name?

We saw the same thing with Carlos Bledsoe, AKA Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, who shot up an Arkansas recruiting office.

We saw this with the coverage of David Hicks, the Australian who spent time at Gitmo. His chosen name was Muhammed Dawood.

We saw this with John Walker Lindh, the American Taliban, who went by Suleyman al-Lindh and Suleyman al-Faris.

It's almost like they don't want us to know these folks are Muslims.

Yet, I don't think anyone asked to see legal papers before papers used the names Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ahmad Rashad, or Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

Seems odd. Is there a standard?

Actually, the NY Times referred to Ali as Clay in print for years afterward:

And there's still plenty of people who call Steven Demetre Georgiou as "Cat Stevens" rather than Yusuf Islam.

Oh, and when was José Padilla ever referred to in the press by either of the names he went by, Abdullah al-Muhajir or Muhajir Abdullah?

And what the hell was Dr. J ever a doctor of?

Exactly! More evidence to prove my point.

This was the only thread still open about the Boston Bombing, and I thought this was interesting.....Not tactful of the Toronto fans, but interesting. Hope there is no D-B here.
