OK, I love Pierce, but a couple of things.

At the time that he wrote the Tiger story, the kid was 21 years old and had been on the tour for less than half a season (and was the age of a college junior). I seriously doubt that "everyone had a story" about what a "hound" Tiger was. And even if they did, isn't every 21 year old doing the same thing?

Fuzzy Zoeller's comments were more than "marginally" racist. They were fully racist.

Steve Williams may be an asshole, but he worked for Norman, Floyd and Woods -- hardly an otherwise unemployable thug.

 

That "insight" was stupid the first time it was posted.

 

Maybe Arnie's fans who heckled Fat Jack will roll out in their wheelchairs to taunt Tiger. No matter how "rowdy" golf crowds get, they're not exactly going to be the Cameron Crazies. I think he'll manage. And even if they are riding his ass, I'd think he'd handle it better than, say, Monty.

I agree with you about Jack mentioning that Tiger hasn't caught him yet. Although it seems like from the beginning he's always had comments that were sort of like, "Hey, don't forget about me," and rightfully so, of course. He's always had the effusive praise - saying Tiger will end up winning more Masters than him and Arnie combined - but he's also talked about how "Nicklaus also outdrove his competition, Nicklaus did this, Nicklaus did that," talking in the third person while also noting things he'd done that Tiger hadn't, or that he'd also done things Tiger was now accomplishing.
