Tim Tebow and the "Are you a virgin" question

The day will come when somebody asks Tebow if he is God.

And the questioner will be dead serious.

What bothers me about this situation is the shock-jock mentality. This Randy Travis character (I know that's not his name) thinks it's cute and funny to ask that type of question. It's taking away from the serious questions from serious journalists.

Those guys from the Birmingham radio station probably high-fived each other like a bunch of high school nerds after looking up the skirt of the cheerleading captain during lunch. (Giggitty.)

I'm all for humor in most situations, but most of us in this business do our best to act professional. Ask the damn question on the side in a one-on-one or smaller-group setting. Or don't ask at all. Has nothing to do with SEC Media Days and the 2009 season, and in my mind was a waste of time for an online "journalist" looking for attention.

Travis is a little bit more than an online "journalist." He has written a book about traveling the SEC.
The question wasn't, "are you a virgin?" It was, "are you saving yourself for marriage?"
The point being that the question was asked in a tactful way and completely out of line with what Tebow has said on other occasions.
The more important question is what SEC coach didn't vote Tebow as the All-Sec QB? He only got 10 of 12 votes. Coaches can't vote for their own players, so that's one of the two, and who is the other?

IT's being discussed in much depth on the other thread.

Maybe we should stop glorifying the thousands of athletes who exhibit behavior that is at best selfish and narcissisic and at worst psychotic, criminal and/or misongenic.

We demand that A.C. Green and Tim Tebow answer our questions. Then when they do, we are offended because they invoked their faith or we mock them because they are virgins.

I haven't seen anyone mock Tebow for being a virgin.

It's fine if he's a virgin, as long as he keep his fuckin' mouth shut. Act like a typical superstar athlete, jerk.

So that's how y'all do journalism down in the South?

Y'all a bunch of clucks and ducks?

Being unfamiliar with the circus called SEC Media Day, I was unaware that the question was asked in a smaller setting. I figured it was asked in front of 200 or so people - which is the impression the amount of laughter and background noise gave off in the clip. But that's not the point - it's still not necessarily appropriate to ask in the company of more than, say, three people.

Doesn't the typical superstar athlete keep running his mouth?

Superstar athletes are more often than not self-absorbed hypocrite assholes. Seems many people would rather Tebow be that kind of guy than the kind who talks about his faith and (gasp!) might actually be a good guy.

Do I have to start typing everything in blue?

Yeah, I hoped that was the case. Sarcasm wasn't that apparent, though.
