If you want to call those quotes hero worship, but all means ...

We didn't think there was any doubt he's one of the few must-reads in the country ... and we thought the consensus was that he was great on around the horn, didn't even know it was up for debate ...

Well, you obviously didn't do much research before the interview or fact-checking after it. If you had, you wouldn't have mistakenly believed Simers had written the infamous "fuck you" column or bought the version of the event that others here now challenge. The problem with not preparing for an interview is that the person can then tell you anything he wants and you'll be too ignorant to challenge him in a followup question. Chalk it up to inexperience, but this is one reason why I don't think bloggers like you are journalists. Your intention may not have been to perform a suck-job, but that's what it looks like when the people reading your blog know more about the subject than you do.

Ruled on Around the Horn... Simers was on for what... two weeks?

  6. I was commenting on the use of the verb "ruled," which is used here in a context unseen outside of some 12-year old Zep fan with a spray-paint can.

Fair enough about the Times' cutbacks, but are you looking at the Globe of 2006 or 1976? The Sullivan-era Globe has to be the industy leader in handing big beats over to inexperienced, underpaid newbies, only to have said wunderkinds bolt at the first available opportunity, usually mid-season or right before their season is supposed to start.

That is a fair point about the Globe in recent times.

As for Simers, I know he's made a name for himself that way, but I personally don't care for columnists who make themselves the center of attention with endless locker-room confrontations.

The fact that you "think" someone's a "must-read" means it is up for debate. You made an assumption that everyone loves Simers, and it was reflected in that interview.

Next time, interview someone whom everyone on this board agrees is a demi-god.
