Today I'm grateful for the friends I've made through SJ, especially those that came to the Toronto outing. Farmer J and her fella were in Toronto this weekend and JR and I met them for dinner at the Irish Embassy (which anyone at the get together will remember as the site of Nipplegate). Huggy and his wife have become good friends as have DoubleJ and his missus. There are so many other that stay in touch or that we have been able to get together with at various times and all because of this place.

Made a quick (24-hour) trip to D.C. to take care of something, saw all the kids, saw my granddaughter. Came back home with a quart of my son's amazing chili (after having some for dinner Sunday) and a rack of ribs my future son-in-law grilled. Plus some horseradish cheddar my son picked up a farmers market because he knew how much I like it.

My kids spoil the hell out of me and I love it and now I'm crying because I suck and I'm a sap!

So I'm thankful for kids who have grown into adulthood and still love me. Though my son did beat me by .24-point in our first fantasy football head-to-head.

    .24 point, not .24 points!

I'm, like, in my first-ever grammar love.

Had to drag this one back up. I've mentioned between this thread and others that my mother-in-law and my best friend are both battling cancer. Like me, my buddy is a fan of Star Wars and the Steelers. We were texting during the game so I knew were were both stunned by how the game against the Patriots ended.

To back up a couple of weeks, he recently got some excellent news regarding his recovery. I called tonight to find out more and came away with the reminder that I need to stop being pissed off about a damn game and be grateful the important stuff is going about as well as could be expected. He and my mother-in-law are both hanging in there in a battle that really matters.

Of course, I'm still pissed off, but today I am also very thankful for some much-needed perspective.

And fuck the Patriots. It's okay to say that. Fuck cancer, fuck the Patriots.
