Alexandria finally decided to say something four days after the video was released? How courageous.

Small towns up here had their chiefs putting out statements on Friday night, because they knew shit could hit the fan quickly.

Then the test is flawed, or the people misinterpret what it's saying, because way too many shitty people are allowed to become cops. It's a systemic issue. I don't know how we make it better, but it's obvious to me that it needs a complete overhaul.

What is the statute of limitations on a city with no threat of unrest denouncing something that happened 1,000 miles away?

    great fucking job everyone

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-m...e-george-police-shooting-plea-handcuffed-man/

Prosecutors have offered a plea deal to a Maryland police officer who fatally shot a handcuffed man six times, an arrangement that could reduce the officer’s charges from second-degree murder to voluntary manslaughter and dramatically cut back a potential punishment, according to the victim’s family.

The proposal to Prince George’s County Cpl. Michael A. Owen Jr. — who had been the subject of multiple use-of-force investigations prior to the killing — was made days before he was set to go to trial in the 2020 killing of William Green. The potential plea agreement, which county prosecutors would not comment on and is not official unless accepted by a judge, has angered Green’s family and comes as the nation is roiling from the police killing of a Black man in Memphis.

I honestly believe that most "bad cops" get that way by a combination of souring on humanity after they took the job "to help people" and fellow cops "showing them how things are done." Having recruits spend a day helping out at a state mental institution, homeless shelter or shadowing a Department of Human Services case officer might also reveal some tendancies/reactions that a 10-minute interview with a shrink could never do.

That's true of many people in helping professions.

New York Pays $121 Million for Police Misconduct, the Most in 5 Years

    also, ffs

Last year, the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board, the oversight body that examines police misconduct, recommended that 145 city police officers should be disciplined for misconduct during the demonstrations after the killing of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who died in Minneapolis after his neck was pinned to the ground by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, in 2020.

During the weeks of protest, police officers and demonstrators clashed throughout the city, resulting in injuries and hundreds of arrests. The oversight body found evidence that supported 267 accusations of misconduct against the officers, recommending the highest level of discipline for about 60 percent of them.

At least we know why they couldn't just shoot him in the leg.
