Good thing this young lady didn't wear hoop earrings without permission.

I agree that she looks terrific in that dress, but if I were her prom date I would probably ask her to take it off.

Credit given where credit's due ... nice shot.

I think it's a fantastic opportunity for her and all of us to consider what it's like going through life as The Other. To walk in their shoes.

I don't think it's a fantastic opportunity to vilify a teenage girl who bought a dress at a thrift shop.

This isn't me being old and white. It's me remembering when I was 16 or 17 and how exciting new things I'd never seen were — no matter where they were from or what culture they represented. How one week I wanted to be a punk and the next a preppy.

Being a teenager is just one giant exercise in appropriation.

I find the coverage of this story slanted.

I guess I'm officially an old fogey since the first thing I thought was "Damn, that slit is too high up her thigh for a school function ... or at all!"

Jeans are an American cultural staple. Why the fuck are they wearing them in Asia? It's an outrage.

Got stuck taking pre-prom photos for the paper last week.

(Didn't feel creepy at all, btw, as a 33-year-old taking photos of teenagers on prom night!)

This is demure compared to most of the dresses I saw, which made it look like the AVN Awards red carpet.

If you sit there and keep score on "cultural appropriation" of high school prom dresses, you are petty fucking person.
