Today's bizarre high school football score

We had an 11-man playoff game finish at 77-47 two weeks ago.

We have a team around here that has just finished an 0-10 season with an aggregate 541-88 score. Actually saw them in person last month; they had maybe four kids who could tackle anyone on the other team.

This is a 4A school in a six-class state, but they've fallen into an ugly cycle. Their teams go 0-10, the kids see it happening, and they grow up not wanting to play for an 0-10 program in the future. In every other way, this is a normal suburban school that would be expected to have a competitive football program. The coaches seem to be dedicated and have some idea what they're doing. They have, and do, win in some other sports.

Their roster is usually 19-24 kids, at a school with some 800 enrolled in grades 9-12.

Last week, the school asked its conference to release it from its football schedule (but not their other sports) so they could go out and cherry-pick a small-school schedule they can handle. The conference approved the move 27-1, even though it left the other six schools in that division with a hole in next year's schedule.

They're right above the Pennsylvania-Maryland border and can probably pick up some small programs down there. Don't know if they can be competitive with them, either. And there was apparently no thought to drop to a junior-varsity schedule.

In a playoff game? That's utterly ridiculous.

State's largest class too. This wasn't Podunk Tech vs Bob's Bible Academy & Taxidermy.

In the Mississippi Class 1A playoffs on Friday night, Hollandale Simmons beat Falkner 98-18.
    It was 84-12 at halftime.
Haven't been able to find any details on it beyond message board allegations of running it up and leaving the starters in. Both are small schools in rural parts of the state, and it was expected to be a first-round blowout (Simmons is the No. 1 team in Class 1A) so there probably wasn't a paper covering the game.

Just a footnote to this one.
After scoring 98 points in its first-round win, Simmons won its second-round game 6-0. Guess they used up all the offense the week before.

Because it was fourth down, I'm guessing he had to run around for a bit to let the clock expire before taking a knee and probably got carried away.
