I covered a game Friday night predicting 50 wouldn't be enough to win. The final was 38-27 and I turned the car ignition at 10:05 p.m. Pleasant throwback to the Wing-T days of the 1990s from which I unfortunately am still rooted in.

(Both teams ran spread with quads one way or another at times but ran heavily.)

Inglewood's quarterback committed to UCLA on Thursday. On Saturday morning, UCLA fanboi twitter was crowing about his "accomplishment."

    I was born in Inglewood.

Spent many nights at the Forum.

The Lakers and Kings aren't in Inglewood anymore but the Rams are.

Paul Pierce went to Inglewood High.

Phish did a show in Inglewood last week.

    Inglewood. -30-

Lisa Leslie once hung 101 on a team in the first half in an attempt to break Cheryl Miller's scoring record. South Torrance refused to take the court in the second half.

“I was kind of heartbroken that I didn’t break the record,” Leslie said. “I asked the (South Torrance) coach before they left the court if they would let me score three more baskets, and then he asked his team, and they said ‘No.’ ”

Morningside Coach Frank Scott was disappointed with the Southern Section’s ruling nullifying the record but added: “We will accept their ruling, but I am not very happy with the South Torrance people for taking their team off the floor.”

    Exactly:

“They’re a good program,” Collins said. “But if they feel like scoring 100 points against Morningside is going to make them a bigger program, then big ups to them. If you’re that good, go play St. John Bosco, Mater Dei or Servite.

“Give me those transfers and I’m sure if I was in that situation, I would never do that … You don’t see Mater Dei, Bosco doing that.”

It was 52-0 after one, 86-0 at halftime. California has a lax mercy rule. Long past time to change that up, but the Southern Section moves slower than a snail.

In the CIF Central and Central Coast sections, it's a running clock as soon as it hits 40 in the second half in football and both boys and girls basketball. A rule I'm very familiar with from my days in Hanford when the girls basketball team would routinely wallop league opponents, hitting the 40-point margin in the first half, sometimes. But while they won big, they also did it the "right" way ... calling off the press in the first quarter, substituting liberally early and often and every now and then they'd go into Hooisers mode, passing five times before shooting. We did not see the football equivalent of that Friday.

8-man also had a 40 or 45 point mercy rule at the half which was one reason I didn’t mind covering it.

Colorado football is 40 at any point. If it gets back under 40, it doesn't matter. Only stops for timeouts, injuries and end of quarters. Worst score I've seen this year is 76-0, which was very eye-opening for out here. Anything into the 60s doesn't happen often unless it's 8-man or 6-man.

Basketball is tougher. 35 but not until the fourth quarter and still stops on free throws. Even at lower levels.

Both my kids are in high school band, and they had to sit through a 76-0 loss to arguably the best team in our state.

My experience is bands leave after halftime. Or was it 76-0 at halftime?

In our experience, the band parents leave after halftime. The band has to sit through the entire game. So it was not 76-0 at the half.
