One angle would be to see if these two scraped previously during the race, thereby seeing if Ward's wage had a reason (besides this incident).

I am merely recalling the most plausible explanation for the lede, which was that there was a super secret video tape of the Northern Illinois shooter rolling up his sleeve in the mirror and checking his tattoo three times, and cocking his gun three times.

This was the most plausible explanation, and fuck me for questioning it.

Your cross-examination ploy on demanding one example -- "One time. One." -- is worthless when you then mock anyone who offers up one example. Now you insist on lots and lots.

I just want one documented example from those lots and lots. It has to be like fish in a barrel.

The lawyer in this Sporting News piece is, to put it nicely, a fucking idiot:

That public video isn’t conclusive, but it sparks questions that could lead to charges, said New York City attorney Steven Raiser, a partner of the New York firm of Raiser & Kennif and immediate past president of the New York Criminal Courts Bar Association.

“From the video clip we currently have, you don’t see enough to really be able to tell whether he sped up, which would be key and also whether or not, when he’s coming down the track, did he maneuver himself toward (Ward),” Raiser said. “Right now, there isn’t necessarily enough but the case definitely concerns me to a great degree. … I don’t think anybody really believes that this was just simply an accident. It’s a question of can they prove it? I feel they have a lot of evidence to prove it, but is it enough to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt? That is going to be tough.”

    ...

“There was another race car that had approached the victim in this case and he had moved out of the way,” Raiser said. “All of a sudden, Tony Stewart comes and runs the guy over. It makes you wonder why was that guy good enough to go around this 20-year-old guy and Tony Stewart just couldn’t figure out how to do that.

“It makes, to me, very, very suspect at how in the world he hit this guy. I’m not suggesting he did it necessarily intentionally but just maybe he wanted to come so close to this guy to scare him. … To say that this is purely an accident, just defies logic on who Tony Stewart is and the reaction of the other racecar driver who managed to get around him and in light of the fact there was a yellow flag. I don’t see him as blameless at all.”

Idiot and all, the guy is right about one thing: It wasn't an accident. It was the result of on-purpose actions by Kevin Ward Jr.

So now Ward threw himself at Stewart's car purposely in an attempt to kill himself?

Fuck, you could've saved us all a lot of arguing if you had just dropped that bombshell a few days ago.

    Edited for accuracy.

So obviously the kid had a death wish, if he really did try to jump onto a winged sprint car moving at approximately 40 mph.

He got what he wanted, then.

I think Ward's family should have to pay Stewart for the inconvenience of having to miss two (and likely more) Sprint Cup races, not to mention the hit Tony's sponsors are taking while he's away.

Then there's the pain and suffering. Fuck, I don't know how a sensitive soul like Tony ever gets over being victimized by this deranged, car-hopping 20-year-old. He could literally spend minutes in therapy.

Then again, he might never get behind the wheel of a race car again -- and quite frankly, I don't want to live in a world where Tony Stewart isn't making left-hand turns. It's just unthinkable.
