    I actually heard something newish said about this today, by a long time fan of short track racing. He said to consider that the dirt surface of that banked turn was steep and somewhat slippery, a dirt surface with rubber marbles mixed in. He also pointed out that many race drivers wear either a very smooth and thin soled boot or a heavier sole with a metal plate on the bottom to fend off heat. Some lack of control and dexterity in moving down the track is possible as a result.
