A fine and probation is spineless BS on NASCAR's part. What do you think would happen if an NFL or NBA player said that? What's the difference? Pressure from the sponsors, of course?

The fact that he wasn't suspended tells me that there might be some truth to what he said, despite his backtracking today.

If a league/circuit is beyond reproach and a player/driver says this, you HAVE TO suspend them for at least one race/game.

I'm getting the sense that NASCAR doesn't agree that it's a "privilege" for us to get to talk to Tony.

You would be correct. And after reading his contract and the NASCAR entry blank, Tony no longer does, either.

And if someone blows it off again, the bar has been set..

Wait for this weekend and something fishy to happen to Tony...

Mike Helton: You know, Tony, I'll bet IRL would love to have you back. And make the check out to M-I-K-E H-E-L-T-O-N. A one, a zero, a comma and thee more zeroes."

Tony: Uh, uh, uh **** fuckin media.

Any early odds on Tony winning this week at Talladega?

Roughly the same as me winning the lottery.

The more salient question is, what's the over/under on the number of pit-road speeding penalties Mr. Stewart will earn on Sunday?

Of course, if he is hit with one or two or seven, the conspiracy theorists will have won...

Huh. Stewart just got black-flagged for speeding on pit row...what a fucking shock. NASCAR better have proof if they care about credibility.

What the hell am I saying? NASCAR hasn't cared about credibility since, oh, I don't know, 1948 or so...

Look, Tony may be a dickbag half the time to the media, and he may get in some dustups with competitors, but I sure as shit wouldn't call the guy a dirtbag. He donates money from his foundation, without press, to some of the old-school racers who don't have pensions. Jenna or Chris from the AP did a great story on this when they did the big Sam Ard stuff a couple months ago.

Tony does a lot of stuff for others that he doesn't seek publicity for.
