Yeah, I noticed that ... it was an oddly edited episode. I also wondered why they didn't pick a winning dish from the winning team -- isn't that the first time they've never named an individual winner, even in team episodes?

Top Chef is always oddly edited, at least to me.
They try to make things as dramatic as possible, when in reality it is a bunch of people cooking for a couple, three hours and then the show cuts it down to 30 seconds of footage.
Same goes for the judging. Read an article that said it sometimes take hours to decide and the editing makes it look like happens in a couple, three minutes.

Did everyone else know that Padma was previously married to Salman Rushdie? I had no idea.

Yeah. They just got divorced not too long ago. She was married to him (I think) the first season or two she was on it.

Just read an odd story on her in (some women's mag). She has a full size swing in her living room.

    A swing? Or a "swing?"

That's actually cool. I'd put one of those in if I had 20-foot ceilings and open space.

Wednesday night's show wasn't a surprise at all. If you pick a dish you have no chance of completing, you have shown you don't have the ability to make a good decision. That had no chance of survival.
