Boat shoes. Sneakers look fine if you're wearing a t shirt with shorts. Not so much if you go any dressier with the shirt.

Topsiders are OK and while I wouldn't wear my basketball shoes with anything but athletic/basketball shorts, I have no problem wearing my low Chuck Taylors, or maybe some old-school Pumas, or a low-cut hiking shoe with a pair of shorts to a ballgame (when I'm not working at the game).

I think they have another one in Gold Coast/Viagra Triangle that I've walked into.

I'm not sure I could wear blue/gold Pumas though. I also have exceedingly wide feet -- practically square -- which makes buying almost any footwear a pain in the ass.

As for sandals, I just don't like walking in 'em. I get blisters. Your feet get dirty and dusty. And, if you're not careful, you end up with sunburned feet.

I'll acquiesce on the "it's inconsiderate to leave the seat up" line of thinking. If that's all it takes to keep the peace, then so be it.

I'd submit, however, that those who are lowering their derriere onto said seat are ultimately responsible for knowing what's beneath them before said lowering. If you get a surprise lack of seatage, it's your own fault. Since I believe that, I also believe the griping about the seat being left up to hold the same level inconsideration as the (non)act of leaving it up.

I can get behind this line of thinking. Seems fair to me.

Oh, for god sakes. The consequences for women when men leave the seat up are much different than vice versa. Being eight months pregnant, I pee six times a night. In the dark. If I fall in the toilet because dipshit left the seat up, I swear to god I will take water birthing to a whole new level. If he happens to pee a little on the seat because I left it down, I'll live. And so will he.

Also, in regards to men and sandals, please don't wear those Red Sea parters. They are just ridiculous. In fact, I would submit that most male sandals are unfortunate looking.

Two inches above the knee? What is this, 1986?

Ha. Not the first time for this argument to rear its head on this board. Someone posted a few months ago that he always wears his shorts, "below the knee" as a justification for wearing shorts. I responded that this was the wrong way to wear shorts for me. Chaos ensued.

What the Sonners of the world are trying to say is "I don't give a shit what other people think I like as long as I'm comfortable." Otherwise known in anti-fashion circles as FYIWWIW.

On a related note, I wore athletic shorts and a short-sleeved button-up shirt to dinner out last weekend. But I have the spectacular calves to pull that off.

No, but I definitely am picky about the shirts I buy to untuck and how they fit.
