Agreed. But the conservatism that rules the day today is the neo-conservatism brought to us by the likes of Reagan, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their ilk. These neo-conservatives believe that the U.S. should remake the entire world in its image using its military might, especially the Middle East, where there is a lot of money to be made off such a makeover.

No kidding. You need to be a political chessmaster with the ability to see many, MANY moves ahead to step out with any substantial, irreversible Middle Eastern move with confidence. Ignorance of this fact was a prime flaw of Fredo's/Bubbleboy's, and we'll be paying for it for years to come.

Just like our founding fathers did to Lafayette? And while we're at it, when was the last time we sacrificed 1.5 million men and 4 percent of the population to win a World War?

God bless Lafayette -- though a lot of that was "Oh? We can screw the Brits? Sign us up." And WWI was hell on earth. But the Vichy rollover left the heavy lifting to US, the gritty Brits, and the "oh, hell, what's a few million more corpses?" Russians. De Gaulle was delusional, and remains so.

Absolutely, but to scar the entire history of the French military with that is just stupid.

My favorite French military leader remains Joan of Arc.

Like Hitler, Napoleon didn't know when to quit.

Screw that. How about 20 million men and 13 percent of the population?
