The reported advance for the book was $1.8 million, which may or may not be the case.

If it's anywhere close to that, it's a fairly safe bet that Joe Torre was not a minor contributor to the project.

Phil Jackson scoffs at Joe Torre's attempts to rip former players.

And if Phil can return to the Lakers a year after publishing a Kitty Kelley-style hit piece on Kobe, I fully expect Torre back in pinstripes in 2010.

So, if I understand this thread correctly, then Joe Torre is doing to the Yankees what Chico Escuela did to the Mets.

Who is Chico Escuela? Did he play for the '62 Mets? [/angola/crossthread]

I don't think that will come as a surprise to spnited.

    :)

Google his name, and just for giggles (googles?), add "Garrett Morris" to your next search (and actually, the second part might not even be necessary).

Considering you didn't know who Garrett Morris was on SNL, you can't possibly know Chico Escuela.

Well, Ruth constantly called Gehrig a mama's boy (which he was), and contemporary reports strongly suggest he wasn't smiling, when he said it.

. . . then there was the moviehouse featurette of the time, starring Ruth:

    "Hanging Huggins From The Train".
