After listening to John Sterling prattle on last night about how the best thing Torre can do is say nothing, and accuse Sheffield of every sin short of bringing down WTC...
"He is high! He is deep! He is....SERVED!"

What I said was in jest, too. I guess the sarcasm wasn't blatant enough.

Chee, it doesn't matter if Sheff didn't say "racist" or not. It's clear as day what he said and impiled towards Torre. Favoring white players over black players is an indicting racism. He knows what he said and he isn't going to back down from it.

Sheff may not have said it, but he's making it known that he thinks Joe's the second coming of David Duke. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out exactly what he's saying without using the word.

Too bad Proctor was traded to L.A. I would love to see him plunk Sheff in front of the Bronx Zoo.

Exactly - when given the opportunity yesterday to clarify or back off his original statements he did not. This is what he had to say to Jack Curry:

"But communicating about guys, like Manager Joe Torre and his former teammate Derek Jeter, is something that Sheffield has done and something he continued to do yesterday. Sheffield said he stood behind his comments that Torre favored white players over black players during Sheffield’s three seasons in New York."

That seems like a pretty specific and slanderous statement. From what we learned in past few day about slander and defamation of character it would seem like Torre has a pretty solid case. Its's clearly on firmer ground that the lawsuit by Kia against Imus.

  7. I agree. That type of talk could be costly to Torre's career, even if Sheff is regularly regarded as a loudmouth dick.

Joe's only suing Sheff because Sheff is black. What about all those white talk show hosts who ripped Torre as a manager before he landed in New York?
I think this is a bunch of bs and you don't sue in a case like this because it only gives it more ink than it deserves.

  9. Blue font?

Being called a racist and being ripped for not doing your job well are two completely different things.

What is the source of Boom's bullshit that Torre is suing Sheffield?

Oh, that's right, there is no substance to this.

  11. So, this is not the 1A lead of your paper tomorrow?

My remarks about Torre only suing Sheff because he's black were made in jest. I just don't think he gains more than he risks losing by pushing this thing. Does he really want to undergo deposition and have to answer truthfully if he's ever told an ethnic joke, laughed at an ethnic joke told by someone else or used language that denigrates a race of people?
