"If somebody wants you to do a job but it takes them two weeks to figure out that "yes, we want to do this," you have to be a little suspicious."

I think the playoff incentives is the most insulting part of the Yanks' offer. An extra $1 million for a playoff round won? Did they think he didn't try to win in the last seven years?

Nice to see there's at least one tool in the Papa family tree.

Thanks spnited. Wanted to make sure I heard it right.

I also like how he dodged a question about Randy Levine. Basically said he doesn't deal with him much.

Sounds like Torre is giving some real answers and still maintaining his usual level of class.

Someone should tell Hank and Hal Steinbrenner just because they hit the genetic lottery and might have won a fantasy league or two, it doesn't qualify them as baseball men.

Telling answer when Torre was asked if he would take on a "ceremonial" role in the organization.

  8. Loved his answer about how he felt when he woke up this morning.

    "Which time?"

And now the local TV news (non-sports) foofs are stepping up and asking moronic questions.

Quoth Ann Richards: Born on third base, thought they hit a triple.

Torre did an hour plus with his usual class but there were three instances where I thought you could tell how pissed off he is at the way the Yankees ended this thing.

He was asked about coming back for something ceremonial like throwing out a first pitch at the new stadium and said "I'm not going to answer that."

He was asked about somewhere down the road going back for Old Timers Day or for a day honoring him and putting him in Monument Park he said "I'm not going to talk about that."

Asked how he would feel going back to clean out his office, he said "I walked out of that office for the last time last week and I'm not going back. I have an assistant who will go get my stuff. I'm not going back there."

I don't think anyone can blame him for being pissed. The organization treated him disgracefully in the last two, three years. To be repeatedly second-guessed by the Confederacy of Dunces in Tampa and inside the organization (Levine, Steinbrenners) through the papers and YES Network, then to offer an insulting contract? Why would he stay?
