Torre even got in a dig at the start time/length of games at one point.

Do you know who has been quiet throughout this saga? Shortstop Patton. I do want to hear what The Great Leader Of Men has to say about "Mr. Torre" being forced out by the organization.

Honestly, I get so sick of fans and media whining about players not 'speaking out.' How do you know what they say behind closed doors, in private conversation? If it didn't happen in the presence of a microphone, does that mean it didn't happen?

I am sure Jeter had a conversation with Torre.

But, considering he's the Captain Of The Most Famous Organization In Sports, doesn't he have a responsibility to talk to us about the Yankees dismissal of the only manager he's known, a manager who is going to the Hall of Fame?

I'm sure Jeter will retire out of protest.

Not saying that. But I'd sure like to hear his thoughts on Torre's ouster.

as the dust settles, torre and his supporters will see he cut off his nose to spite his face. he spent 12 years putting up with steinbrenner. now he quits -- and he did, in fact, quit -- because of no guaranteed second year? and because instead of just letting him go as his contract ran out -- he wasn't fired, his deal was expiring -- the yanks had the nerve to offer him a pay cut to 5 mil, still the most in baseball?

heck, he was making 7.5 mil because he won 4 world series. he stopped going to the world series so was offered a cut w/incentives covering his butt if he went back to the series.

sorry, folks, but everybody thought torre was flying to tampa to sign the deal. EVERYBODY, including "mike and the mad idiot." then he turns it down and he's even more of a hero? i don't see it.

if the theory is the yanks made him the offer hoping he'd refuse, he effed up by not taking it. by telling 'em to stick it, he gave 'em what they wanted and is no longer the king of n.y.

but he has his dignity, right? i'd take the 5 mil and a shot at 13 straight playoff years. hope joe, who's been such a mensch, doesn't wake up in a cold sweat soon and think, "wtf did i do?"

    Please.

Mikeeeee was just making the latest of his endless series of bad guesses. And Fruit Loops was feeling agreeable.

How anyone listens to that collection of tripe (other than for an isolated decent interview) is beyond me.

Would have been fun if, after 45 minutes or so of the presser, Torre brought out a Ronan Tyan lookalike for a 10-minute rendition of "God Bless America."

Fatass and The Yelping Yorkie wouldn't know class if it kicked them in their oversized asses. It's easy to run off at the mouth in Astoria when you know you never have to answer for what you say.
