I know that. I'm not condoning what went down by any means. I fucking hate that Torre was run out of town like this and I hate the way Steinbrenner is handling the situation.

Maybe his sons should be the ones making all the decisions regardless of what dearest Daddy says. Maybe then Torre might still be in Pinstripes right now.

Too bad Dusty signed with the Reds. I would have loved it if the Yanks made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

He's busy "pressing the flesh" in South Florida.

He wouldn't last half a season in the Bronx.

If they Yankees had just sacked up and said they were not going to offer him a new contract, I could have respected that. I disagree, but I can understand it. I'm not arguing that point here.

But as I and others have said repeatedly, whatever we may think of the offer, they knew Torre was going to turn it down. It's the way they handled this that I have a problem with.

    I know. That's my point.

Anyone they get to replace Torre is going to be compared to one of the great managers of the last 20 years. All that person is going to hear is, "Joe would have done it this way."

He or she is also going to be without ARod, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte and (probably) Abreu. But he'll have Shortstop Patton to throw teammates under the bus.

The fuckers deserve the reign of shittiness that they're about to endure.

Reading the Yankees web site, this was called a shocking development. Baloney. The Yankees had to make it look like they were making an offer so they weren't casting him out. It is tough to get rid of a guy who has managed teams to 12 straight playoff appearances, and that would work fine with Bobby Cox and Atlanta. It isn't enough for Yankees fans - 26 World Series banners has a way of spoiling people.

I have a lot of regard for Joe Torre, but the Yankees are going to have a difficult time next year with their pitching. They may be an entertaining team to watch with A-Rod and some offensive players, but this is a team which is likely to have Hughes and Chamberlain in the rotation so there is going to be a rebuilding period. With 2008 being the last year of Yankee Stadium and 2009 being the first year of the new Yankee Stadium, this is as good a grace period as the Yankees are likely to have.

Better a year too early than a year too late.

Whether or not this is a good move is dependent on who is the new Yankee manager.

  12. Hmmm, if the Indians clinch tonight, what leads off SportsCenter: this or the ALCS?

And I only wish I was using the sarcasm font.
