Looks like this was published the same day:

EPA Requires Norfolk Southern to Sample for Dioxins in East Palestine | US EPA

Be interesting to see if the Guardian updates.

I am guessing there is stuff at work here that I can't understand (politically and scientifically), because he's right that the EPA is seriously downplaying concerns about dioxins, while environmental acvtivists are sounding alarms.

Oh but wait! Vance and Rubio onboard with bi-partisan, new hazmat regs!

    Politico sucks.

Sounds like most cars were empty and there were several tankers full of diesel exhaust fluid, which is basically urea. So trackside should be pretty green this spring.

Honest to goodness, any trail derailment isn't like a fender bender on the road. "Oh, let's move this to the side and resume as normal."
20 cars off the tracks is a huge freakin deal. 1 car off the tracks is significant.
Multiple derailments in a couple of a weeks is nuts.

No. You’d be surprised at how many derailments occur in yard operations. They don’t affect the mainline.

Class 1 railroads have derailments frequently.

We are now at an asinine point where ill-informed journalists are going to jump on everything like it’s an asteroid headed toward Earth.

Derailments? There's a trade journal devoted exclusively to wheel/rail contact.
