Dude...the Wood Brothers winning the D500 is WAY bigger than that moon landing. I mean, the moon is so far away and stuff.

Good perspective by Dave Kallmann of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Most of the worst journalists I've ever known cover NASCAR.

That was my experience. If yours was different, good for you.

  4. And fake! (The moon landing, I mean).

There's some of those too. I think every sport has its high points and low points in the media center/press box. And NASCAR has embraced the "citizen journalists" a bit more than most sports, so there's more of an influx of people who don't have the journalistic background that others do.

But just saying that if someone covered NASCAR and/or the SEC, they have no idea how to conduct themselves? Embarrassing for you, but right in character.

Fine, against my better judgment, I'll ask....the last time you covered a race was ... when?

Also links to an excellent analysis by one of our own, David Kindred (apologies if this is a d_b):

I'd really like to see some of the "new generation" have to spend a year or so covering small-town sports, preferably in a situation where there's two or three schools roughly the same size vying for attention, with each group's fans convinced you favor the others. They'll get another perspective on why cheering is frowned upon.

    Right. Three years ago.

And who, precisely, did you meet when you covered this race three years ago that gave you such impressions? And which race did you cover? And how many have you covered?

And when you and others use broad brushes to paint certain media corps as cesspools of graft and corruption (and now, apparently, binge drinking and date rape) where no-talent hacks just show up to party...do you understand that might tick those of us off who actually are there every week and see no evidence of such?
